The download is usually in the form of a "CD Image" ISO file.
Create a CD from that file using IMGBURN: http://www.filehippo.com/download_i...
Then boot your faulty laptop from that CD.
If the hard drive passes the long/extended test, consider performing a Factory Recovery but only if you already have backups of your data because FR will overwrite all data on the C partition and possibly other partitions too.
