I have networked two machines at home. One is XP Pro SP2 and the other is Vista RC1 Build 5600. I have shared folders on both machines.
From the Vista machine I can access all the shared folders on the XP machine. No problem.
From the XP machine I can see all the shared folders on the Vista machine but I can not access them.
I am not prompted for a password presumably because I don't use passwords on either machine for login. Instead I get an access denied error.
My Vista machine is named Grandslam and the share I am trying to access is called Games.
Here is the exact error.
---------------------------
My Network Places
---------------------------
\\GRANDSLAM\Games is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------Coincidentally I believe the root of this is also preventing me from playing networked games between the two machines. I can see the games created on either machine but I can not connect.
I have been looking through all the security settings on Vista and nothing seems to be working. Does anybody know how to get around this?

o.k. I managed to solve this problem (but not the part about the networked games - I created a new post for that)
The way I solved it is to add the Everyone group to the security tab of the share (in vista) and giving that group full access.
