I'm trying to remove Vista from inside of XP, having already used a program to restore the XP Boot loader, I was told it was then a case of simply deleting the Vista directories. However, I constantly get "Access Denied" error messages, saying that files are in use, but why would they be? It's not like I'm trying to delete Vista from inside Vista! I really need to free up the space, the WINSXS folder being particulary troublesome, not allowing me to delete anything uyet taking up 6GB on my drive.

How can I properly remove the Windows folder?

Cheers

Right-click on the applicable folder(s), click properties, then click the security tab & make sure simple file sharing is NOT enabled and configure (add or edit) the permissions so that everyone has full access.

I don't suppose you could give me some more advice on how to do this? I managed to get a few files deleted when messing around with the permissions, but I can't delete any of the remaining ones, having tried all sorts of tinkering with the permission options, with no success.

Cheers

You must take ownership of the files/folders before you can delete them. You can find the instructions to take owner ship at http://www.jkg.in/37-permission-denied-data-recovery-in-windows-xp.htm and intructions to safely remove windows Vista at http://www.jkg.in/46-how-to-safely-remove-windows-vista-beta-2.htm
