I have made a new XP-installation on a new computer and want to connect to an NT-domain .Directly after teh installation it will work but if I turn the computer off and on I won´t be able to connect to the domain. I get an error message when I tried to log on "Windows cannot connect to the domain,either the domain controller is dowwn or otherwise unavailable or because your computer account was not found" . I tried to log on as administrator.

A thing to try is:

unplug the PC from the LAN.
Go into Control Panel->System->Network Id->Properties
Change from a domain to a workgroup called workgroup and reboot.
Reconnect the LAN cable and logon as the LOCAL admin account.
Go into Control Panel->System->Network Id->Properties
Change from a workgroup to a domain and give it the NT$ domain name.
You should be prompted for a username/password - use the domain Admin account & password and you should get the welcom to domain popup.
Reboot when asked and all should be fine.

This is assuming XP pro. XP home can not join a domain. jan23 didn't specify which.

You do not have to unplug the pc from the lan to change to a workgroup. Before you can rejoin you have to delete the machine account on the NT server - if it exists which is really the question and where I would suggest looking at first.

I would also, before doing the workgroup thing, make sure ip is working correctly by running ipconfig at a prompt. Perhaps if using dhcp you aren't getting a ip address which among other communication level issues can generate the error of no dc found.

I have tried to connect to an workgroup and then reconnect to the NT-domain and it will not be any change , I have IP-addresses .
I have tried to lock the computer to a specific IP-address and DHCP but it will not work . I can go to another computer in the network ad log in without any problems
