Hi,

Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me, I used to have all win 98 se clients that were connected to an NT4 domain but now have these two new XP computers, in windows 98se it was as easy as clicking an option box "authenticate with domain" and putting the domain server in there to have these computers log in, however with windows xp (pro) i have no idea how to do this as there are no checkboxes "authenticate with NT domain" etc. If someone could give me a brief run down on how to get these clients logging in to the domain it would be great.

---------------
Kind Regards,

Tim Goodhew

Right-Click on My Computer
Properties
Network Identification
Properties
Select Domain, and type in the Domain name

You will then need to authenticate with the Domain Admin user account and password.

Sorry...

That should be "Computer Name" Instead of "Network Identification."

Then, select "Change."

Had 2000 on the brain. :)

Thanks, this seems to have let me connect the computer to the domain. However, i am now experiencing a new error. On the server side, when i look at the server manager and try to see properties of the client it says that the TRUST relationship has failed and the client won't log into the server saying "..It's unaivalable or busy..." in the event log it says something like "Authentication failed computer name [mycompname] appears in security database as [mycompname]$ and that trust failed or something" do you have any idea what could be the problem or why i can't log in.

Had similar problem and we had to disable an option within the local security policy on the XP machines. Goto local security policy, then Local Policies, Security Options and then scroll down to "Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)" select Disable on this and then try joining again.
