I'm pretty new at this so please forgive my my lack of knowledge. How do I use Xcopy to
copy files and maintain NTFS and Share permissions? I have set up a network of several old computers. I an trying to transfer files from an alpha to a i386. I can't seem to get the syntax correct???
I'm using Xcopy [source] [destination] /o /a
/s. Is this right. Instead of names should i use IP's? I'm LOST!!! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

XCOPY is a powerfull utility

Map a drive on your Alpha machine to your NT destination directory

I'm presuming their in the same domain, and that user permissions/groups are available to both

Its all about using the correct syntax options of the XCOPY Command

/s does not copy empty directories

/a copies the Atchive attribut, only usefull if you run a backup

Not sure if /o is a valid option

I suggest XCOPY *.* (UNC) /e /h

Note: if moving files to another partition ALL security settings are lost. Moving within same partition they're maintained. Resource kit has util for moving w/security settings.
