Subject: Workstation Service fails to start after adding RAS Service
|
Comment: Here are the Specs of the system: Dell Poweredge 1300 w/ latest Bios upgrade Windows NT 4.0 Server w/ SP6a - PDC Digi Acceleport 8r 920 with US Robotics modems Problem: All the hardware installs fine but whenever I add the RAS Service and reboot, the Workstation Service fails to start. I can start it manually but since it does not start during boot the Server no longer sees itself as the PDC and it creates a number of other problems for user logon. The server actually sees itself as a workstation. I know that the recommended practice is not to install the RAS service on a PDC but in this case the client has no choice. Has anyone seen this error before. The Server originally had SP4 on it and we reapplied after installing RAS, then we upgraded to SP6a and repeated entire process with same results. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bill

Reply: (edit)When the Server boots after installing the RAS Service it comes up with the typical NT message "At least one Service Failed to Start..." When you look in the Event Viewer there is no error reported regarding the workstation service. You get other messages about not being able to locate the PDC but that is because the PDC now sees itself as a workstation b/c the workstation service did not start. Thanks in advance for any tips on this subject. Bill
