Hi
When i press the power button on my comp, the hard drive spins up makes a couple of clanking sounds and stop spinning. The HDD LED on the computer is always on and the screen says something like unable to detect hard drive. I can load into the bios ok but cant boot. I have a lot of important data on this drive, by anychance can i get it fixed or at least get all the data recovered onto some sort of other media?

Thanks

Make sure that the controller is working. Plug your cd-rom in that controller and Boot from cd-rom to see if it works.
Make sure you have jumpers set properly.

If what the previous person said doesn't work, use a bootable MS DOS diskette, boot into DOS, then change the directory "cd C:"
and check to see if any data resides on the the disk - you might have a completely corrupt (toast) HD.

If you absolutely need to retrieve the data, there are data recovery services listed on the WWW, just as they are listed at the back of nearly every PC Geek magazine.

Keyword *data retrieval*

Costs a lot of money, but the reputable ones know exactly what they're doing.

Don't skimp on the replacement drive. It'll probably cost you less to replace it than to retrive your lost data. Just make SURE that the profile and interface are compatible wirh your motherboard and drive bays.
