Hi,
I am facing a WINS replication problem with our remote sites.I am having a WINS server at our remote site with IP address 172.17.16.101 and my site there is a WINS server with IP 172.17.90.61.I am able to ping 172.17.16.101.But,when I go to WINS Manager and try to configure replication partner with 172.17.16.101 and say 'Replicate Now',it says that 'Replication request queued'.But in Event viewer it says 'Connection was aborted by the remote WINS'.Administrator password of both the servers are same. Please help...
Thanx

THis may be a dumb comment, but did you configure the remote side to also be a replication parterner? both sides have to be configured in order to work.

I am having the same problem. I have both servers setup with WINS and replicating each other every 30 minutes. But only one of the servers can see all the clients in the network neighborhood. The other one can only see its local clients.

Hi,
Well I have some good news for you all! I in fact came across exactly the same problem, and FIXED it! WINS relies on TCP Port 42 - if you are using any Routers or Firewalls, ensure these ports are not blocked. In fact, even now, I occasionly get the same messages as you, dispite the fact that WINS is running on both servers, and you can ping and trace routes to them! I use a Cyberguard Fire wall, and although WINS Replication occurs, I still receive the same error messages on a very random basis.
But since opening port TCP42 on the routers and allowing it through the Firewall, everything works fine.
What I would also suggest is once you have verified TCP42 is allowed to talk to the servers, remove your Push/Pull configuration, Stop/Start WINS and re-configure push/pull partners again. Then force a replication through and monitor both event logs on the Servers.
I hope this helps. Any questions let me know
