Comment:

goal to have my main web site visible on internet and 2 98 machines that have internet access. Im running winnt 4.0 sp4 IIS,ftp, smtp, web proxy, winsock all running.
Master WWW properties WinNT logon
default web site both anonymous and winNT logon
operators admin only
ISAPI Filters w3proxy and exchfilt
web proxy properties
permissions WWW admin, everyone, default web site\IUSER_computername
publishing tab enable web pub checked
send to local server doted
with this configuration both the 98 machines have access to the internet but when someone puts the www address in internet explorer i get a full winntlogon user, pass and domain. if i uncheck winntlogon on default web site then i get from internet for the www address a 401 proxy error no permissions and this also disconnects the two 98 machines from internet also with 401 errors. ANY HELP AT ALL WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. feel free to email me frstthing@aol.com.. Thanks in advance!!!

i sent this responce any other suggestions are welcome!!!!Sorry took so long to post i have several to monitor..

First and foremost after winnt install you must have IIS installed and running.
2) proxy server is a slave to the IIS server and takes most of IIS master and other setting defaults.
3) if you have microsofts option pack4 available from www.microsoft.com then this will upgrade the IIS server to 4.0 instead of 2.0 and also download service pack4 for winnt server.
4) after install of option pack4.0,,, install the service pack4 winnt server.
5) now is the time to install ms proxy server,, install this proxy server on your winnt server.
6) if you have a static ip address most of the things you need are in place.
7) you can accept most of the default settings for proxy server as it will take settings from your original setup.
8) after install and rebooting winnt server check to see if the proxy server is running.
9) if its running you installed it correctly.
10) you now have 3 more things objects in your scope pane in the MMC
web proxy
winsock proxy
socks proxy
i dont know if you are running a web site or if you just need it to have other computers hooked up to internet
11) for the clients (computers hooked up to the server signed on) the default share for installing the client software is located on the servers c drive under C:\MSP\CLIENTS
12) just hit the setup icon and you should be good to go for 95,98 clients to access the web, but there are a few settings you must check on all depending on how you want to use your proxy server and if your going to use the firewall..
basically thats it except for configuration and a few other things..
REMEMBER to reinstall SERVICE PACK4 after you install proxy server!!

I am using Windows Nt 4.0 with SP6 and am planning to install Proxy server on the machine. My problem is that I can connect to my ISP using one IP address ....

e.g. take it 205.28.27.100

and I wanna get the Internet access from this machine. The rest of the machines are on a different network...

e.g. 192.168.23.0

I have one NIC installed on my system and I have tried it by giving two IP addresses to the same card but I don't get the solution.
What else I need to do?

Please give me the solution.

Regards,
Pankaj Mehley
