Subject: Winnt setup ruins partition table??? |
Comment: Hi guys, I have installed WinNT win9x linux etc MANY times on my PC but yesterday NT setup really messed up. I have 20GB hdd, worked fine with 6Gb NTFS partition, ca6 Gb linux, some free and at the end a little 500Mb FAT part. Decided to reinstall NT. Booted to partition magic 5, deleted NTFS and LINUX. Created NTFS 1Gb at beginning. result: Setup displays 'unrecognized partition' I decided to let setup format it for me(delete and create new). After format and reboot still that #$@ unrecognized. Formatted with PM5 to FAT and still doesn't work! I got it running by deleting the small partition at end of disk. Now NT is installed but refuses to boot if i create that small one at the end, again boots fine when I delete it. The following error message(BSOD) appears when non-booting:"NO-ACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" NEVER had this before, and always have used this config(boot partition and smal part at end) Anyone knows what's f---ed up now? I don't want to just use 1 partition for whole disk! Thnks, Bart

Reply: (edit)You might want to start from scratch if you've installed that many times. Low level format the HDD. Many good utils out there for that but mail me if you need one and I'll wham one over.

Reply: (edit)I've FDISK-ed everything away, reboot, and created 1 FAT partition. (sounds like low-level format to me) Installed NT ok in FAT but still refuses to boot when there's more partitions in there! Upsizing the FAT to 20GbNTFS > still works ok Guess I have to live with one 20Gb partition.
