WINNT 4.0 Doesn't see SCSI drives, but DOS does?!?
I recently moved two working drives, one IDE and one SCSI into a different machine. I re-installed WIndows NT 4.0 Server but it keeps saying no devices in the SCSI settings. And event log shows that it was unable to start the controller for the Adaptec AIC-7880. If I use a DOS startup disk and use FDISK I can see the drive and partitions fine.
Can anybody please help...this is doing my head in!
If you can see your scsi drive from DOS, that means your scsi controller is functioning properly. Now you have to check if you are using the proper NT driver for your scsi controller. Please make sure that some driver you require SP3 to be installed .

Your drives may be stuck in dos-compatibility mode. Not sure of the reghack to fix this in NT, but in win95 go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / Services / VxD / IOS. On the right hand window under the Name column, delete the value NoIDE, if it's present.

I had the same problem on a Compaq 5500. When installing do not allow NT to auto detect the SCSI drive - add the correct driver from a diskette, then add the IDE and any other mass storage that is required (CD-ROM)
