I have a server currently running WinNT 4 Enterprise Edition (SP6a) and is also a BDC. My question is if I can UPGRADE to Win2K advanced server as a member server. Because it is already a BDC must I do a fresh install? I do not want this machine to be anything other than a member server on the current domain. Our company does not want to upgrade to Win2K or Active directory. We do need to upgrade this server because of a specific application that will need Win2k.

Luckily the server (as well as the domain) in question is not being used at this moment so I was able to try and upgrade the WinNT 4 Enterprise w/Win2k Advanced server. I took the server right off the LAN and then did the upgrade. On every re-boot it wants to install active directory which I do not want. My plan was to do the upgrade, make it a member server, and then add it to a domain at a later point.

Thanks,
Mark
