Can anybody please tell me what to do? I have
an old computer with PII and 64MB of RAM and
i want to connect it in LAN with my other
comp with WinXp on it, I got tired of Win98's
unstability and illegal operations and want
to try WinNT workstation 4. So i need help
about what to install over it. What service
packs, with what encriptions and how to make
it most suitable for playng games on it
(Counter-Strike and Starcraft mostly). And
please, if anybody knows any links to service
packs except for those on microsoft.com
becouse i don't really get their site
anymore. My last download from microsoft.com
was DX7 cca 5 years ago. Please guys, thank
you all.

NT4 is not "game-friendly". Your best bet would be either to upgrade the memory and try a Win2K installation or (better yet, and likely less expensive) go for a used (but newer) machine with XP already installed...

For gaming, you are far better off with Win9x. DirectX 3.0 is the highest official directx version avaliable for NT4. Also, NT4 Kernel Mode Drivers for your graphics card may not support DirectX while the WDM (Windows Driver Model) driver system on Win98, 2000, XP etc does. Furthermore, Win98 supports DirectX 9.0c as the latest version. Finally, as Win9x is a DOS based system, DOS games run pretty good on it, while on NT4, DOS is emulated in NTVDM. My advice is get the latest drivers for your hardware, and install Windows 98SE, which seems the best OS for your requirements, processor and RAM. Windows 2000, even if it had more RAM, may struggle on games with that processor
