Hi.

I have a very unusual problem.

Windows Update won't download anything. It just skips through the selected items then displays an an "unidentified error" message.

The Windows Application log lists:

12/01/2002 22:18:11
WindowsUpdateV3 Warning None 12007 N/A
DAN The description for Event ID ( 12007 ) in Source ( WindowsUpdateV3 ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): V3_2|4825|INSTALL|Security Update, August 21, 2001|1,10,101,0|2002-01-12 22:18:00|1|FAIL|0x80072ee7||.

Please see the image at this url for a better view of this:

The last bit of the error varies for each of the different download options.

Thanks in advance
I have re-installed the windows update control. I have run both repair and re-install's of Internet Explorer 6.0

It is a brand new install of NT 4, running the Desktop Update and SP6a

You could try the following;
1. clear out IE download cache via Control panel->Internet options
2. Delete CV3 Class from \winnt\Downloaded Program Files.
3. The following is extracted from the MS Knowledge Base article Q241783

Internet Explorer on the client machines must meet the following requirements:

Security set to Medium or lower.
Active Scripting: Enabled.
Internet Explorer must be configured to allow the download and initialization of ActiveX controls.

Note: These are default settings for Internet Explorer.

You can check specific ActiveX Security and Active Scripting settings through the Custom Level option:

Click Tools from the Internet Explorer menu bar (click View for Internet Explorer 4), and then click Internet Options.

Click the Security tab.

Select Internet Zone and then click the Custom Level button.

The following settings should be set to Enable or Prompt:

Download signed ActiveX controls
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
Active Scripting

Microsoft is having some trouble with their Windows Update site right now and have had for the past few days. It's very likely the problem is not on your end. It may be, but there is a known issue at MS.

I would wait a day or two and try again.

Thanks everyone.

It appears to be working ok now, I'd done everything that was said before and it didn't work. I just tried it and it worked. So it must have been the servers.

Thanks for taking the time to send your ideas

its appreciated

^^
