Everytime I boot my computer up I get the winnt\system32 folder starting up. I have a dell optiplex GX1 With Windows NT service pack 6. It is not in any startup folder. How do I stop this folder from starting on bootup.

Check the registry for the key 'run' in HK_Current_user and HK_Local_Machine
It might be only a blank which causes this !

Under folder HKEY_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runservices and \runonce there are keys under these folders that just say default and no values. Are these what your talking about. If so do I just delete the folder? If not what does a blank key look like?

I Agree with Mike, this is def in the reg under RUN, and its in H Key Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run.
We have had this happen before, you will notice it when you see the key, this is also where you get rid of those painfull apps that you dont want to load upon startup.

There is a key under the RUN folder called searchhook with no value data. Would this be the one to delete?
