Folks..

I have Windows NT Server SP6 installed. It ran out of virtual memory and all the windows freezed. Then it came up and I was installing remote access to my work, wherin it complained that I had 2 adapters and I had to choose one of them and remove the other. The I rebooted the system and now it loads everything and the window to log on almost comes up and then it reboots itself continuously at this point.

Pl. help me in resoving this issue. Thanks and appreciate it.

start install and use the ERD you made before you made the changes to the system. After all you gave yourself a backdoor right?

Try coming up in VGA mode. Worse case reinstall and restore from your last backup.

Thanks for replying...

Wanderer: Whats ERD?? Pl. explain the backdoor you are talking about..

PomPom: I tried the last known good configuration, VGA Mode, NT bootable disk but still the damn thing doesn't come up. Just before it should display the contents of the login screen, this will boot. Now I'm in a fix. If I install again, will I lose all my data?? coz, that would be very costly, as I would lose precious data. Yeah.. I do not have a backup.

erd stands for emergency recovery disk. You make one by running rdisk/s at a cmd prompt. It backs up your registry plus. No back and no erd, ow!

You can reinstall NT. When asked for the install folder name use winnt2. If you use winnt you will overwrite your original install. Only if you format the drive(s) will you lose data, so don't do that. Use the 2nd install of NT to fix the first install. Or if you don't know how to do that just use the 2nd install to preserve your data so you can reinstall from scratch. Lesson to learn here is always make a erd before any changes, program installs, or service packs.

"Yeah.. I do not have a backup."

Arrgh! Why not? At least backup your "important data" - never mind you have to reinstall software.

I would try this: Find a friend and try to install your hard disk as a second drive. Then maybe you can copy your "important data" to some other medium.

Good luck!
