Hello,I am working on a DEC Alpha Personal Workstation 433a. I am running Windows NT Server on it.
I installed some help desk software and now my system will not allow me to executer files.
I get the following exampe (Microsoft Word):The image file is valid (word.exe) but it is for a machine type other than the current machine.
All executable files get the same respones. Also when I try to run setup from my cd I get this response:This setup program is not intended to be used with your current version of windows.
The OS shuts down and boots with no problems.
Thanks for your timeAndre

I am thinking that the software is for the Intel platform and not for Alpha or are you saying that Word worked fine before you installed the Help Desk software? If the problem occurred after you installed the new software, then try to remove it and see if everything returns to normal.

I did a search on Technet and came up with this article. I don't know if this applies but I hope it helps.
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97, AlphaGeneration version
---------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
If you attempt to install or use the Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-in version
1.2 or 2.0, you may receive one of the following error messages:
The image file \xlscan97.exe is valid, but is for a machine type
other than the current machine.
-or-
Microsoft Excel 97 Virus Search Add-In Version 2.0 Could not find XVBSCAN.exe
in the same directory as XLSCAN97.XLA.
-or-
Microsoft Visual Basic Compile error in hidden module: mod_Search
CAUSE
=====
You may receive one or more of these error messages if you are using a computer
that contains a DEC Alpha processor instead of an Intel or an Intel-compatible
processor. The Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-ins are not designed to work on
Alpha-based computers.
A Microsoft Excel Virus Search add-in designed for Alpha-based computers is not
available at this time.
STATUS
======
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at
the beginning of this article.
