I've been trying to install Windows NT server 4 on a Intel Pentium D processor (Dual Core) working with a Biostar Motherboard and 512 Mb RAM, but installation process is unsuccesfull. Does Pentium D Processor Supports Windows NT????
LS

It is not the CPU it is the Motherboard Chipsets which have no drivers, who manufactures the Motherboard/Chipset Intel, VIA or SiS ?

Thank you Santa, but enlighten me, you are suggesting that a combination of (Pentium D + Biostar Motherboard) won't run Windows NT, but a combination of, said, (Pentium D + SiS Motherboard) will run it?, may I ask you if you had the same trouble???. Again, thhank you!!!!
LS

No I am saying the CPU is immaterial as long as it adheres to the X86 instruction set, Pentium/Athlon etc do, even if it has EMT64. Forget about the CPU in your endeavour to install NT4.
I am saying that you need driver support for the Motherboard Chipset. At start of install it clearly states press F6 to offer the Drivers on a Floppy Disk for any unsupported Chipsets which control the hard drives.
I was asking you for the Manufacturer and Model of the Motherboard to see if maybe the manufacturer of the actual chipset still support NT4.Biostar will probably be unhelpful as only W2K/XP/W2K3/Vista is officially alive as far as Microsoft are concerned.
Lets face it NT4 was last updated circa 2001!

Well, The processor is Intel Pentium D 925 (3 GHz, 2 x 2 Mb L2 Chache), and the Motherboard is Biostar P4M800 Pro.
I start installation process, Press F6, having ready a disktette with drivers supplied by manufacturer, in order to give the system this drivers, but a few seconds after, the screen turns blue and the system restarts!!!

Maybe try the VIA version 5.xx Drivers ?

Also are you using a SATA or IDE Drive ??

BTW if using SATA, it may be prudent if the BIOS has a seting to change the SATA settings to IDE Emulation if do not need SATA RAID capability!

Guess we will be reading these posts for years to come. There hasn't been any new mainboard driver support for NT in quite some time. Expecting to install NT on new hardware is a bit short of..
Consider instead of installing a host OS like xp pro or server 2003 and virtualizing NT via vmware or ms virtual pc.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Well, Thank you very much, both of you.
I'll try the VIA Arena drivers you gave me Santa, I'm actually using IDE Hard Disks.
LS

OK, let us know it is probably best to get most of the drivers from manufacturers if install works, btw did you disable SATA in BIOS as you are not using ??
If you do get W2K working download the DEMO of http://www.hwinfo.com this will state manufacturer/model of hardware.

Ok Santa, I downloaded the HWINFO32, I'll use it since I've got working Windows XP on the hardware in trouble, Thank you for your help.
