I have also problem with opening AWD files under Win NT 4.0 . I em looking for a the solution for this problem. ASAP I mow the anwer I let you now

Why can't I view faxes received with Microsoft Fax for Windows 95?
Microsoft Fax uses an .awd file format, which isn't supported by Imaging for Windows NT. However, there are a couple of ways around this. One is to open the MS Fax files in Imaging for Windows 95 and save them as .tif images.Another solution is to use the Fax Viewer that comes with Windows 95, which will run on an NT Intel computer. You will need to copy Faxview.exe to any convenient location on the Windows NT system, then copy the following eight files from the Windows 95 machine to the \System32 subfolder in the Windows folder on the Windows NT machine:
awcodc32.dll
awdcxc32.dll
awresx32.dll
awview32.dll
mfc30.dll
mfco30.dll
mfcans32.dll
mfcuia32.dllThe aw*.dll files are specific to the Fax Viewer program. The mfc*.dll files may already be present on your system, because they are used by many programs. If any of these files do already exist on the target system, then do not copy the Windows 95 version; keep the one you already have.
Also copy the Faxview.* files from \Windows\Help to \Winnt\Help, so the context-sensitive help will be available.
Once you have copied all the files, you need to register the .awd file type. Here’s how:
In Windows NT Explorer, choose View, Options, and switch to the File Types tab.
On the File Types tab, click the New Type button.
Under "Description of type," enter "Microsoft Fax fax."
Under "Associated extension," enter awd.
Click the New button to display the New Action dialog box.
In the New Action dialog box, under Action, enter "open."
Under "Application used to perform action," enter C:\Winnt\Faxview.exe "%1" using the exact path to the folder where you copied Faxview.exe. Note the quotation marks; be sure to include them.
Click OK to close the New Action dialog box, then click Close twice to the close the Add New File Type dialog box and the Options dialog, returning you to Explorer.
Now, you’ll be able to double-click faxes forwarded to an NT user by a Windows 95 machine as .awd file attachments and view them in Fax Viewer. (FYI, this tip is one of many developed exclusively for my forthcoming book, The Microsoft Exchange User's Handbook.)

I can't find faxview.exe from Windows 95. My Fax viewer program was Imaging for Windows 95.
Thanks

You can find Faxview in Windows 95 Rev A.
If you have Windows 95 Rev B, you have Imaging, that also open AWD files, but this program can't be moved in Windows NT.
Faxview instead work very well, and it resolved my problem. Than you Johan!!

I copy faxview from windows 95 to windows nt as blomme johan said but it didnt work. Faxview runs but not open awd files. what i did wrong ?

I opened the file with imaging in Windows 98, saved it as a .TIF format, then I opened with Imaging for Windows NT and it worked.
thank you Blomme Johan!

To all the people that thanks me for my tip, you can also take a look at my website. You will find several tip for windows 98 - NT - explorer tip and help about viruses

Solution is only applicable if client has Windows 98 machines. For most enterprise level clients, this is not a solution.
Opening up the file on another workstation, saving it in a different format, and the exporting it to a W2000 workstation is tedious.

*** Urgent ***
