Hello,

I get the following error when I boot:

Cannot find the file 'C:\WINNT\System32c:\Program' (or one of it's components). make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

I am on a Compaq Deskpro EN Pentium 1.0ghz with Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and SP6a on it. I can't seem to be able to figure this one out.

I did not install anything new but just started getting this error today.
Can anybody please help?

Kim

hi kim,
it may be a runtimeerror of some program. look in setting\system\environment for the correct path for the program. Also show with the path-command in CMD-session for the path. If you think anythink is okay, no broken links,no wrong filename, no wrong directoryname, no double ";;" install your last SP again. Then i think anythink may run again.

greetings mike

This is a far too common problem.

Bring up regedt32, navigate your way to:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

At the top, make sure you select "View", "Tree and Data".

In the list on the right, look for a startup program that's located in "C:\Program Files", but the whole command is NOT encased in quotes. Double-click the entry. Then, put quotes at the beginning and end.

The entry should look something like this:

vptray:REG_SZ:"C:\Program Files\Navnt\vptray.exe"

The problem is the kickoff sequence doesn't correctly identify the subdirectory because there's a space in it. Putting the command sequence in quotes will fix it.

Hello again,

Now that I fixed that problem I have another, this one has been ongoing for a while and I thought it would clear up but hasn't. I installed Windows Media Player on the same machine and when I try to start it it comes up with:

The procedure entry point EnumDisplayMonitors could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.DLL

Do you have any idea why I am getting this? I tried Real Player too and get the same thing. I looked up EnumDisplayMonitors and it said it was for several monitors. I only have one monitor on this desktop and never installed anything that would use several monitors. Does anyone have a clue? This is very strange!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Kim

What programs have you installed since the service pack was loaded? Interesting. Load SP6a again, and see if that clears it up. it should.

If not, bring up IE, and go to "Tools", "Windows Update". Run through the update sequence, and click to "+" to "Show installed updates". Try installing media player again.

The only program I installed was Windows Media Player. So I put on the service pack again and I still get the error. I also did the windows update stuff and I still get the error. Now I downloaded Real Player and that seems to work okay, for now.

I guess I just can't have Windows Media Player on this machine??

Any more suggestions??

Not really. Sorry. The only systems I have here to experiment with are my servers, and I don't install anything that's not necessary on them. I sure you can understand.

Work is pretty much a nightmare right now.

Good luck,
Chase
