Comment:

Hi:
I have set up a peer-to-peer connection with one NT4.0 and one WIN98 machine. WINNT is able to access WIN98 machine but WIN98 is NOT able to access WINNT. Instead it asks for a password for \\winnt_name\IPC$, which I don't know or remember. If I specify the resource as \\winnt_name\C_SHARED, it will prompt for a passwd as well.

Did I set up sth wrong on the WINNT?

Thanks,
Zhao

That message is the Inter Process Control... and is NT's way of asking you for the admin. password, or a valid log-in/password...

The standard/normal solution is to create an account on the NT system that uses the same log-in and password you use to access/log-in to the '98 system.

Also you can enable the Guest account on the NT system, and log-in as a Guest.. But it's actually better to use the correct approach...

Might not hurt you to visit Helmig at:

http://www.wown.com aka http://www.helmig.com

and have a good read/browse of his '95/'98, NTWS, NTSvr info/tutorials.. Lots of useful things to know about there...

Good luck,

lm-S
