Ok, well from what I can guess CDFS is what the system uses to access the CD

The fact that the computer restarts indicates that there is a problem with this file

are there any other setup CD's avalible you can try the setup with?

you list os as xp but you are posting in the nt forum.

are you installing nt or xp?
is this new hardware? If so odds are you don't have nt drivers [not made for newer hardware] and the detection phase is failing.

and

tell you what cdfs is... (Remember NT3x arrived "more or less" shortly after '95; and NT4 about same time as '98 was mooted/arrived...; NT3x in effect having the GUI interface from '95 bolted onto it, and a few other tweaks/improvements to make it NT4...?)

If you use the NT setup floppies likely you can/will circumvent the problem - presuming there are suitable drivers available for your current hardware (as queried by Wanderer).?

Another approach - if possible to access the CD via a boot-floppy etc.: copy the NT i386 folder to the drive and run setup from the HD?

Incidentally with NT and often W2K/XP as well) problems during setup with a file or more are often (but not always) due to less than purrfekt RAM... It may not be quite upto par for the job in hand... Usual (diagnostic) approach is to reduce to single stick (min for NT = 64Meg) and see if one can succeed etc... with installation?
