Hello ..I have a small computer with Windows NT 4.0 on it ..I have a 3Com 3c900b Network card ... I went to instal the driver but it asked me to set up the network first in the control panel I followed the instructions then it said " Setup needs to copy some Windows NT files" Problem !!! (I only have a floppy drive on the machine) I want to load a program on it but I have to do it through the network lan card ... I did not have any service packs for NT so I downloaded service pack SP6i386.exe which is 34 mb in size ..Next problem how do I get that on to my machine as all I want are a few files to complete the network set up wizzard then complete the NIC card installation then hope fully load my program
Any advice welcome
Im not to familiar with NT

usb didn't exist when nt came out. You can add drivers later but now would not be the time and they didn't work all that well.
usually you burn service packs to cd and copy them to the hd and then run the update.
same with the i386 folder from the nt install cd.
This when when asked for files you direct the input to these folders on the hd.

As I guess, CD is also no option, because he wrote,
"(I only have a floppy drive on the machine)"
Maybe a DOS bootable floppy disk with ntfs support is the last option.
So you can connect to another machine and copy the service pack or NT nic card driver to a temp folder, restart to Windows NT and install all the stuff.A Bootdisk can be found here:
http://www.bootdisk.com/ntfs.htm

I can think of a couple options if I were in your scenario:
1. Swap out the hard drive and copy the files on another PC. This is probably the quickest option, but make sure the other PC isn't running Windows 2000 or XP since it will rudely "upgrade" your NTFS partitions, which would be a disaster since you do not have service packs installed yet. If you only have FAT16 partitions, then you can ignore this warning.
OR
2. If you have a serial port and null modem cables, you could transfer files this way. This is the method I have used to transfer a Windows 98 CD to a laptop that only had a floppy drive and no network card. Bear in mind that this method will take many hours to finish. This is the safer option, but it is significantly slower.

Hey Thanks guys for all your help I have not been well for a
while but will try all your suggestions once Im better ..I do
have a serial port and a null modem cable ..and thanks for
that web site for the drivers
Thanks again
