Win NT control panel problem

I am facing a curious problem on NT 4.0: After opening the Control Panel, the CP extension applets are refusing to open. However, the .cpl files themselves are running okay,(when run by double clicking the CPL icons from the system directory) . I've checked the View/Options/File Types/ menu on explorer, and it gives the correct association of CPL files with

Thanks for the reply. This is to be done when the icons are missing fron the Control Panel folder(because the CPL files are corrupted or missing from the %system32% folder. This is not what I'm seeing.The files are okay and icons are showing up correctly. Only I cannot open the control by double clicking on their icons :(
All this resulted from an attemp to clean up the registry to remove ghost entries left overs from uninstalled programs.
Otherwise my NT4 system is behaving prefectly. Does anyone know the registry entry which enables explorer to open control panel icons?
