I just inserted a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 LAN card into the PCI slot of my HP kayak machine. It's a Pentium 400, dual processor system with 2 SCSI harddisks. The lan card was inserted to 1st PCI slot. 2nd PCI slot is a FDDI card and 3rd slot is a SCSI interface card. My OS is Win NT 4.0 with sp 4. My problem is that i have problem installing the driver of the linksys network card. But i followed closely to the installation procedure. Here is a sequence of actions i have done:
1. Power off, pluck in the linksys network card.
2. Power up, go to control panel -> network -> adapter
3. Add adapter. I then selected Have Disk.
4. Placed diskette containing driver into A:
5. The system then copied the driver into the system, but just before it complete a "Network card is not present in the system" prompt is showed. The installation is then not completed. The following additional observations were made:
1. there are green lights on the LED's of the network card. They are blinking
2. the driver diskette comes with the network card. So it should be the correct driver.
3. I tried enabling PCI bus mastering for the PCI slot 1 which the network card is plucked into. The other 3 slots are left disabled. It still doesn't work.Pls advice..thanks.

At the bios summary screen what irq is the ethernet card? The driver diskette that came with the card, does it say its the NT4 driver? Does the card have NT drivers?
You should be on service pack 6a. 4 was not a great service pack.
