Subject: Win 98 & NT backup incompatibility problem

Comment: I have recently, after experiencing loads of problems ditched Win 98 and moved over to Win NT Workstation. Getting our Segate DAT drive back up device up and running has been a problem, but it's now working a treat. However, PROBLEM! - despite being a good boy and backing up all data files etc before changing the os I now find that the NT backup software will not read the backup tapes because they were created using the Win 98 backup software. Does anyone know a way around this problem or steer me in the direction of shareware utilities which will resolve things. The Segate backup software is a possiblity but at £300 for a one off task it is a rather expensive option! I should also point out that we do not have any other win 95/98 machines, other than two laptops which cannot accept the drive! Thanks - Kevin

Reply: (edit)Hi, try to make a dual boot and restore the files on the new installation of win98. Make sure the partition is FAT16. start NT and u will be able to find the files.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for that advice, however I really would like to avoid doing that if possible because I have heard about all sorts of problems to do with conflicts between the two operating systems even when they are successfully partitioned. I have also experience problems when uninstalling 98 and I do not want to face those again
