After you change the rocks in your head, would you mind explaining why you didn't think I had already tried several different search engines before comming here?
Had you bothered to check your own link, you'd have noticed the same lack of results I did.
Now, does anyone *else* know where I can get general purpose USB drivers?
Bookworm, firstly which of the FIVE posts do I answer, you are almost SPAMMING this forum. Also all the information is available on CN or by Googling, no need to get shirty with responders, this is after all a VOLUNTARY HELP Forum, want answers quick and accurate PAY!!
NT4 does not have native USB support and the only developer who got anything remotely working has given up, though you could carry on the developement as he has the Source Code available, this would help other NT4 Users.
First, I apologize for my first response, it was a little rude. But why would anyone ask here if we hadn't tried the search engines first?
I am not spamming this apparently dead forum. I am a relative beginner at NT4 and have only a relativly good idea what I'm doing. I just have a few simple questions.
My last question should be too ovious to need asking, but I guess those A/V connectors must be a decoration or something. There are plenty of drivers and settings, but no "view video" option.
USB for windows NT4 is not a lost cause; I found a link to a driver on toastytech.com I'll see if I can find it again and post it.
I don't think you should have to apologize. I could see how maybe it would be rude if he had given you actual pertinent links, but he just typed your question into google basically saying "why don't you just look it up on google" so he is basically the one being rude, calling you stupid and calling this website worthless at the same time. Unfortunately you just get answers on here that aren't helpful sometimes... I wish there was a way for the original poster to be able to declare their thread resolved or open, because when people see that someone has replied to a question they often assume it's resolved when obviously, it isn't like in this case.
Anyway, as for this particular problem, I haven't used NT for a long time, but I remember having the same problem. I know that you need service pack 6 before even considering usb, and it is not officially "supported" by microsoft, but that doesn't mean you can't do it...besides... they don't even support windows NT at all anymore, so that doesn't mean much.
According to Microsoft on the page ()
"Some third-party vendors, including BSQUARE Corp. (http://www.bsquare.com/ (http://www.bsquare.com/)) and Phoenix Technologies, Ltd. (http://www.phoenix.com/ (http://www.phoenix.com/)), among others, provide components that add USB support to Windows NT 4.0. However, Microsoft does not provide support for the use of any of these third-party components."
this is link (http://www.bsquare.com/products/driversandmore/usbforNT.asp) contains another link (http://store.bsquare.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog&parent_id=127) but as you can see the page is blank so that pretty annoying... I would contact "bsquare" and ask them why.
Anyway... it looks like there isn't any solution that will give you a guaranteed working usb port that will work with any usb device you plug into it. There are many usb devices that had their own drivers that came with them to work with NT, but the driver only worked for that device. Then there are the limited solutions above. But it's a starting point if you're still wanting to try.
