Have you set your CMOS to LBA for your harddrive? (Reboot and hold del)

If so then it's probably because that is all that NT can read with it's default settings, just like you can only use 2.1 Gb space in DOS. Install NT with only 4Gb and set up the remainder as a seperate partition as part of setup. If you wish to have it all on the one big partition, invest in something like PowerQuest's PartitionMagic 4.0 that Changes your whole hard disk without deleting any data!!
