If your using Fat16 then it is 2Gb. If you are using NTFS then theoretically it is 16 exabytes although with todays hardware, it is functionally 2 terabytes

Hope this helps

2gigmax is for ms-dos file system to read files in that size.. 4gig partition is the max recommended by microsoft but will have to be formatted in NTFS as fat16 may not format as well on 4 gig. win nt has a max of 4 primary partitions per physical hard drive, but you can put 3 primary and one extended and in the extended put 3 more primary partitions. the 2 gig limit is because ms-dos cannot read any files bigger than 2gig. you can however with nt put 2 4 gig partitions together to form a volume which looks to nt like 8gig and one drive letter in win nt disk manager.

The primary partition is 4 gigs using Microsofts spk 4+ install cd's, or up to 8 gigs using Microsofts NT Resource kit99 CD's.
I do not remember where I saw it, but I do remember some where, that it is possible to get up to 8gigs for a partition using the NT Resource NT kit. or using the newest version of NT. Some file some where needs to be replaced. Not sure where, but I will see if I can find it, and i'll repost the link to it.
The best way to get by the 2 gig partition is to use a win98 boot disk. Fdisk and then format the hard drive. Then insert your NT4.0 cd and boot up from it, Delete the fat partition and create a new 4gig partition, and format it with NTFS.
After your done installing NT4, don't forget to format the other partition to NTFS.

Cheers

Charles
