I recently reformatted and reinstalled NT4 workstation. Everything works perfect EXCEPT when I install my cd burner programs they will not recognize my cd-roms and I get this error message
Error: Unable to initialize the ASPI Manager
ASPI Manager is not installed on system
Does anyone know what I can do it install this?
thanks

ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface.
It is basically a specification devised by Adaptec for SCSI host adapters.
The ASPI manager handles the OS and hardware dependant commands. It basically deals with sending the commands to the target ID (device).
Then there is the ASPI module which is specific to the command set of the SCSI hardware, basically one module would deal with all CD-ROMs another would deal with Hard drives etc.
This is all software based and you need to ensure that the correct adapter software is installed and that the devices used are part of the NT Hardware Compatibilty List.
If it is the OS having the problem, you could check the SCSI settings in control panel to see if the driver is the correct one, if it has loaded and if it is working properly.
Some adapters cannot handle certain types of devices and an appropriate SCSI adapter may be required. Check the manuals for your devices to see what they recommend.

I ended up downloading the aspi manager from adaptec because NT does not include it.
I installed it and everything is up to par now. thanks for the help!

I just formatted and reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro. Now all my Cd ripping programs wotn work because there is not and ASPI driver, i do not have a SCSI cd or any devices. What do i need to?

I've recently installed a Diamondmax hard drive running W95 and a 233mmx. During boot up I get ASPI manager not detected. {ASPI.sys), this is not a SCSI drive. Also, under my computer, proterties, I get MS dos compatibility mode error.
Any Idea's
Thanks
Bob
