When I go to Network Neighborhood and try to go to a specific compurter it asks me for the password for \\charlie\IPC$
charlie being the user
and when i click on other computers it lets me right in? how do I take off that password protection in NT40
thanks

The IPC$ is a special admin share that is used by the browser service. You can not connect to it directly. If you want to connect to an NT 4.0 workstation or server then you must either create a share on that system with permissions giving you access or you must connect to one of the admin shares and for that you must be in the local admin group of the system you are trying to connect to.

What are the requirements on the Windows NT server side, besides running the Server service ?
I have tried to just share a new folder with my user account + everyone access and it still asks me for the //machine//IPC$ password...
Any additional service that needs to be run ?
Any special options needed in the Sharing itself ?Any thing to do on the client side ?
Thanks fo rclarifying this point...

I got the same problem accessing Win2k Server from win98 on a workgroup, no domain.
win 98 and win2k prof can see each other.
win2k server can see all others.
So it is the win2k server that rejects connection from win 98. W
Any suggestions?

For win 2k problem. I just found a solution.
It might be the default that guest account is disabled. To enable it go to "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management" then select "Local Users and Groups" select "Users" - double click on "Guest" - then uncheck "Account Disabled"
if this works please tell me via the email =)
