I am running NT 4 Server SP6a as a standalone server on a home network. It shares out the internet connection and runs Winroute Pro 4.1.24 to do this (as well as DHCP serving, Port Forwarding etc). There are 2 Windows 2000 Pro client computers connected to it in the network. The printer is a shared printer on one of these machines. All remote users (Administator included) 'log-in' to this machine (ie access shares) with the same user name and password. When printing as administrator on the NT 4 box the printer works fine. When logged in as a user on the NT 4 box the spool service has a fatal error and is closed by Dr Watson. I have made sure that Everyone has read access to the spools directory in System32 and that users have print rights to the printer but it still comes up with this GPF.

Well, Tim, I dont understand your affection for Winroute Pro, since I've never seen it, or heard of it here in the States. I suppose it's something you were initially exposed to either at school or at work.
Next time you get a chance to recreate this error event, open Event Viewer to see if there's an error ID associated with the GPF.
Post that here, and maybe we can find something revealing in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Winroute Pro is made by Tiny Software http://www.tinysoftware.com/ and is just a NAT/DHCP program. It doesn't do anything to the printing system but simply sets up and controls the network like any NAT/DHCP server does. The printing is just ordinary Windows File & Printer sharing.
I looked in the event log but it doesn't have any errors reported- the Spool Service (spoolsvc.exe I think) simply encounters a fatal exception and is closed by Dr Watson when trying to print when logged in as a user. The NT 4 Server is actually the client computer for the printer- the printer is attatched to a Win2k pro computer inside the network. All other computers on the network can print to the Win2k pro computer fine and so can the Nt 4 Server but only when logged in as an Administrator. And yes I have checked the permissions on the printer.
