Could it be something to do with good ol Dr. Watson?..... in any case i deleted it and my system isn't hosed. :)

This is a file that is refered to as the BSOD this is the text file of your physical memory.

The file User.dmp is generated by Dr. Watson to log errors. It can be sent to Microsoft Technical support for diagnosis, but is not very useful to the end user, and it is not critical that it be backed up. It can safely be deleted. See Q278689 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Summary: I have a file on NT 4.0 Workstation called USER.DMP, its 220mb in size. Does anyone know what that file is used for and can it be deleted for NT to operate normally? Thanks for the help...
Summary: check c:\temp, also look for user.dmp file in c:\winnt, also, do a file search, under advanced you can look for anything over a few meg to see if there's anything big on the drive. ...
