Hello All

I wounder if anyone can help, i've been trying to solve a problem i've been having for months, every week i have a error message pops up on my NT4 server (SP6a)which say:-

Initialization of the dynamic link library c:\winnt\system32\USER32.dll failed. The process is terminating abnormally.

I Can't open anything, the only way to get rid of the message is to restart the server, i've search all over the net for this problem, i've tryed everything they have suggested like setting the desktop heap to 512 and 1024. I think this problem started when i installed and deinstalled ARCserveIT 6.61, any suggestions..?

Hi,

We've been getting the same problem on one of our servers, I followed your advice and copied over fresh versions of Gdi32.dll and User32.dll. However when our NT4 server was restarted it got to the logon screen then rebooted itself. The only way we could stop this problem was to use a ERD disk and copy back the origional files. Does anyone know why this problem occured as I just thought the files were standard. If not does anyone know another solution to this problem.

Thanks

You might try re-registering the file after replacing it.

Bring up a command prompt and change to the system32 directory on the machine.
Type in:
regsvr32 user32.dll
press enter.
Should get message that it registered successfully.

Did that help?

James

Hi Mr Hodges,

I have read through these responses and was wondering if the last resolution response worked for Mr Lee Blewitt. We are experiencing the same error.

We havent made any of the changes as yet. The reason for this is that in another forum I read, the gentlemen said that he tried changing the Heap size and it never worked. He even change it to 1024. After you saying that we should replace the user32 and gdi32 files, and re-register them, there was no response. Could you pls help as this is very service effecting for us.

Thanks

I am developing a system which uses DCOM between two machines, - the target machine runs NT4e, and I get the User32.dll failure message each time I attempt to communicate with the NT4 machine. Adding the 512 RAM addition in the registry has no effect.
