Hi, the problem is with user accounts being frequently locked out. The users first log on using a Novelle id and password. They then have to log onto a NT 4.0 domain to access SQL 2000 appliciation. Also sometimes the network drive is not mapped during logon hence a possible reason to the lock outs. Any ideas?

Are the Novell and Windows passwords the same for these users ? I've seen this happen when the passwords are not synchronized.

Some users keep the same password for Novell and Windows, however some do not. It is not possible for all users to have there passwords for Windows and Novell the same at all times. This is due to some applications requiring a specific Windows password and therefore will most definately be different to there Novell password. So would it be correct for me to think that the frequent account lock outs are occuring because when the users get asked to change there Novell password they automatically presume they have changed there NT password too and therefore the lockouts are simply due to incorrect passwords being tried eg 3 times.

If the Windows accounts are being locked, this might be the case.

My setup : Win2k pc on part Novell and part Windows network.

What I have seen is Novell accounts being locked because the users had manually mapped drives (reconnect at logon) in Windows that became available only after the Novell login.

Also, resetting and synchronizing both passwords would be the only thing that fixed the locking account problem for users how had the problem for no apparent reason.

It is not the Novell accounts being locked! It is the NT domain account. Could it have anything to do with the users using a WIN2K terminal - first logging onto Novell and then logging onto NT server when using an application. Also I have been told that Windows often drops the mapping during logon for no apparent reason?
