Hi,

I have a Dell PE1300 server running Win NT4.
3 SCSI HDD, the first 2 are mirrored and the 3rd is just patitioned.

The 3rd HDD failed and we replaced it with an exact model, Quantum Atlas V 9.1GB(U160).
When we boot the server, the SCSI Bios picks up the HDD and loads it, however when we get to the OS, WinNT doesn't see it.

Nothing has changed on the server. There shouldn't be any driver issue, as the HDD is exactly the same.

Does anybody have any ideas.

Thanks in advance
Phyto

I can't see the drive in Disk administrator to format it.

It's as though the OS doesn't know it's there.

Are you sure it is not seeing it ?
It may not have a drive letter assigned .. but be blank letter option ... assign drive letter

Absolutley positive.

It doesn't show in Disk administrator.

Is there a way which i can scan the SCSI Card? to see if it picks it up.

Try looking at WINMSD for the drive.

The drive won't show up anywhere in Win NT until it is partitioned. From there you can format it in Disk Manager.

Kurt, now how would you partition without using Disk Admin. ? My NT4 DA does create/delete/format/changeletter/...
How do you do it ?
It sounds like Phyto has some kinda weird problem ... BIOS sees it ... someone suggested reinstalling sp6a/whatever.. to fix hardware recognition.

You can use a 3rd party app like Partition Magic to create partitions.

Dear All,

Thanks for your help, however nothing seemed to help my problem.

I have since then replaced the HDD with a new one and it worked fine.
Some kinda wierd problem, which i think we will never get to the bottom of.

Thanks for all your help
Phyto
