Hello,

I have Groupshield 5.0 with Exchange 5.5 running on a Win NT 4.0 server, and the Groupshield's scan engine is 4.0.70. I want to update the scan engine to the latest version, which I believe is 4.1.60, and have downloaded the SuperDat file (SDAT4229.exe) from the McAfee website. I don't want screw up the the server. I have looked up at several websites for the instructions how to update it. Generally, they all say just double-click on the SDAT4229.exe file and follow the prompts to finish it. If anyone has experience with this or some good information, please help! Thank you in advance.

I too have Groupshield running on Exch Server 5.5 and what I did was copy the sdat____.exe file to C:\Program Files\Network Associates and then execute it.

It detects Groupshield and shuts it down updates it and restarts it. No interruption to Exchange at all, just the anti-virus suspends for a short while.

Once you have run the sdat file, don't forget to set the schedule up in Groupshield to go and get updates daily. This only gets the new .dat files which is fine but you do want to update the engine for full protection.

Hello Maurice,

Thank you for your help. So, I guess the SuperDat file should take care of all three the Virus Scan, NetShield NT, and GroupShield, right? And, just simply double-click on the SDAT____.exe file to execute it. Does it have to be the exact path C:\Program Files\Network Associates?

Thanks, again.

A super dat is a file that upgrades your scan engine and brings your DAT files up to date too

Check McAfee regular for engines updates (Superdats)
Virus DAT files can be upgraded by the upgrade choice in the Virus scanner console
If I am correct updates are done every wednesday evenings or in betweeen if needed in case of a serious attack by a new virus.
So set the updat like Thursdays at 4 am or so
