Hello all,
Sumary of problem:
2 Disk Drives.
Disk 0 - 2 partisions: all ok
disk 1 - 3 partitions: one ok, 2 are listed as "UNKNOWN" when viewed in Disk Administrator, and are not accessible.

Also, in Event viewer, an error message

" The Device, \Device\Harddisk2\Partition1 is not ready for access yet"

Thank you in advance for any help,

Do you know what they were before? You don't mention missing data.

Number of possiblities;

drive's going bad
were created but never formatted
this is a multiboot machine and those are fat32 partitions

Im sure both partitions were NTFS and contained shared folders.

Any way to restore these partitions without data loss?

Thanks

Adam

Before you attempt what is written in the excellent link Trvlr provided you might want to make sure all your ducks are in a row.

This should only be done if you do not have a backup. BEFORE YOU DO THIS backup EVERYTHING and make TWO ERD's.

Misuse of Diskprobe and other disk utilities can TRASH YOUR SERVER. Just so you know :-)

I personally would do a little digging in event viewer and other sources to determine what exactly happened. Did you crash? Chkdsk run? If view from outside the system [utilites] do the unknown partitions contain data?

Best of luck on your recovery.

The unknown partiton could be a dignostic partition. Dell servers usually have one and I know that Compaq PCs used to have one too.
