The server just stops on the boot. I think the boot files have gotten out of the first 2 gig of the drive. Unfortunately the consultant who set it up did not partition the drive and it is all NTFS. The raid system seems to stops me from using the three setup disks to restore the files into a reconizable position (in the first 2 gig). I have removed much data to try and copy them manually into this area but the first part of the drive remains pretty full. Much of the first two gig seems to be taken up by space reserved for system files (if I am interpreting diskkeeper analysis correctly).

Correction: Much of the first two gig seems to be taken up by space reserved for system **SPACE** (if I am interpreting diskkeeper analysis correctly - Diagonal Green lines).

The limit is 7.8GB for where those files have to be within. There should be an error message reported. Knowing that would be a BIG help. Something along the lines of:

NTLDR is missing
Corrupt Boot.ini
NTOSKRNL is damaged or missing

You didn't mention whether the RAID is SCSI or IDE, hardware or software, on board or mobo. Nor whether its a PC server or one of the name brand servers. This info is vital in order to help you out.

For starters, if you have another NT box availible, format a floppy on it and copy the NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and BOOT.INI file to it. Then try and boot the server with the floppy. That might work (if its not a name brand server, running a hardware or SCSI RIAD).

Post back.

I am able to boot from Floppy, just not the hard drive. The server is Dell Poweredge 1300, SCSI raid (PERC)configuration. There is no error message. It just looks for the files on the hard drive and when it does not find them it just sits there forever unless there is a boot diskette in the floppy drive.

Sorry response took so long. Too much to do.

I'm having the same trouble, I've just found Microsoft's answer to it at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q255220

I'm going to try that now, good luck to you!
