On one of the university's computers whenever a user logs in the system32 directory window pops up. We have tried everything we can think of to get rid of this problem to no avail. We have tried: **closing window and copying profiles **searching the system and registry using regedit and sysedit. **Installing and uninstalling programs such as realplayer. (error first occured after uninstalling real) We are at our wits end. None of us knows what to do. You help is appreciated. Also we have a 98 computer that opens notepad at login. ANy other ideas?

Check the policy editor to see if there are items set to run at startup.

is there something in the startup folder? winnt\profiles\whoever\programs\startup\

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Yes we have checked the startup folder of both the users profile and the all users profile. Nothing was found. Also we have our machines set up so that each persons policy is reset to the domain values. So that is out. Any other ideas?

Hi, I think your problem (with the notepad) could be that when the administrator made your "deafault user" profile, he had notepad open. What you can do is to delete the profile and make a new one...
