Hi,

I am having trouble getting NT to recognize my NIC. It's an ACCTON en1207d 10/100 fast ethernet, PCI. It's on irq 5. I downloaded some driver package and it says there's no network card in the system! I am using the only accton that comes with the nt but I know it's not right.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,

mgb

NT4 does not P'n'P therefore you have to manually assign the IRQ and other parameters. Usually IRQ10 is used by NIC's.

There are still many NIC chipsets supported under NT4.

Also do not install it in the pci slot immediately adjacent (next) to the agp slot - if that is in use. These two slots share the same irq - and a nic won't be happy if in that slot with an active agp... Ideally have at least one pci slot between the nic and an "active" agp slot.

The system used to have ME on it and it worked. My problem is figuring out the settings like the I/O address the IRQ. Where do I get that info?

Thanks

The manual for the card usually has that info - in terms of possible irqs etc. Perhaps visit the website for a copy (downlaod) if you don't have it to hand?

Also ensure you do have the correct (NT) drivers...

Also for many "older" cards... there was usually floppy that had a dos based util to allow you to configure the card as required?

Yes,
I downloaded the utility from Accton and ran it and it said I didn't have a network card??? When I try to setup the card with NT it has 1 Accton entry, but it's not the right one for my NIC. I tried using the "Have disk" option and pointed it to the directory where the Accton drivers for NT are (that I downloaded from Accton) but it says it can't find the driver. What is it looking for?

Thanks,

mgb

Obvious things to check...: re-insert the card; it may not be properly seated?

The file you downloaded is the one they iedentify as EN1207D.zip; and you have expanded it to (in effect "release" the drivers to) a folder?

I did test download/expand of that zip file; it does list the driver - EN1207D.inf.

Thanks,

The card does work, I am dual booted with Linux. I downloaded en1207.zip from accton.com but I do not find EN1207D.inf in there. Where did you get it?

mmm

When I checked the file(s) various including the .inf to which I referred... it turns out to be a text file (info) pertinent to installing the driver for assorted OS...; and there are several.inf files there...

Sorry about that misdirect; frequently .inf refers to the actual driver too...?

Still I downloaded the zip file from:

http://www.accton.com/support/drive...

It's the second one in the Ethernet Adapter listings...

Expanded it lists a range of files; extracting the whole list (winzip checkout option) displays a list of assorted files etc; including these three dos files:

accodi.com; accpkt.com; set1207d.exe

When you run the last one (set1207.exe) you get a dos utility... which is labelled as a setup, installation, and diagnostics utilty. I am presuming this is what you're looking for. Certainly it is very similar to other NIC driver utils etc. I have used, and very familiar to me from past experience.

Hope the above correction and then discussion gets you to where you want to be...

Incidentally; rechecking that utility that is in the /zip package. I'm not completely sure it's a dos utiity; it opens up within XP (for example) automatically - without the need to run cmd.exe first.

I suspect it's a windows util that closely resembles (in style/appearance) the once more or less standard dos util...

Either way I think it has all you need to get the card installed, and tweak irqs if needs-be.
