If you plan on using this harddrive in the same computer as the old one you can use either Ghost or Drive Image to do a block by block binary transfer of the old hard drive to the new while also adjusting your partition sizes to make use of all of your new drive.

Ghost, then REINSTALL the OS.
Ghost will move all registry, all hardware items, controllers, bla bla and it will be a mess on a new different machine. Ghost gets you your data, reinstall makes NT work again.

If the new hard drive is going back into the same system that the old hard drive came out of then there is no need to reinstall the OS.
