Subject: The memory could not be read |
Comment: This error pops up in a multitude of applications and crashes them when it does. I have tried many different fixes and none seem to make it go away. This does not happen everytime but more for some applications than others. Sometimes when this happens the file, almost always Excel, gets corrupted to some degree or another. Anyone had this problem? Anyone found an answer for it? I found another forum with this subject listed. It had 144 entries for just this problem.

Reply: (edit)We get this error often at the office and we ususally fix it by recreating the user's profile. If that doesn't work, there's a hotfix available on the Microsoft site. Try the knowledge base.

Reply: (edit)i just found what i think is the answer to this error. it seems to happen in many different applications but always in an nt based platform (nt,2000,xp). i just fixed my version of this error on 3 different computers by changing the permissions in the registry to everyone having full control instead of read only. specifically in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Enum Root (this is the folder i set to everyone full access). i then uninstall and reinstalled the offending software on each of the machines and all is now well.

I did a search on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on my pc and got no result! This problem drives me crazy as it constantly occurs when we are trying reach deadlines! Any guidance would be greeted by large cheers from a hotwired studio staff!

Reply: (edit)Use REGEDT32 to change the permissions. Personally I'm not comfortable with changing the permissions for the EVERYONE group to Full Control. I'd add the Administrator's group with Full Control (assuming that the individual is a member).
