I have a NT4 machine & a Win2k machine connected to Win2k Server & a networked HP4050 printer.
On the Win2k machine I have an application that needs to use/modify the HP printer driver. So I installed the driver locally to LPT1 then changed the port to a Standard TCP/IP Printer Port, giving this port the IP address of the printer.
All worked fine.
However, I can't do this on the NT machine. When I try to change the port from local to TCP/IP I don't have the Standard TCP/IP Port available to me.
Would anyone know how to install this (it's there by default in Win2k).
Many thanks,
Pete.

you are going to have to setup a port manually,...in nt4 tcp printing is a bitch,...you will have to set up an LPR port type, and set the ip and/or "que" name in there,...this is typically the share name setup on the printer, or NETBIOS name setup on the printer,..some actually call it a que name though,..you will have to look at your documentation
good luck

Use Jet Admin to set up the port its more stable than the standard tcp/ip port in Winnt. You can get it at Hp's web site. A form of jet admin comes on the disk that came with your 4050 although it is not called JetAdmin but it does the exact same thing as far as setting up tcp/ip ports. Give the machine An IP address manually and the software will find that Printer address and create a port for you.

I have faced the same problem.
I used Ja255en.exe from HP website to add the HP Standard TCP/IP port on Windows 98, change IP address to the IP of the printer.
