Tape Drive Error

Hi,
For the past two days, anytime I run my backup I receive this error message: "Tape device reported an error on a request to eject the tape. Error reported: Hardware failure." I realised the backup finished, but keeps on coming up with the above message. I'm running a Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, and using SureStore 40 with a DDS4 tape.
The server is a HP LH 3000.
I'm suspecting I may have to change the tape drive, but I want to know if anyone has any other ideas???

What backup software are you using? I use Veritas BackupExec 8.6 and have stopped using the 'eject tape at end of job' option because tapes didn't always seem to eject. All it means is that when I come in in the morning I have to manually eject the tapes ready to load the next ones.
If the tapes eject properly when you press the eject button it may be worth trying.
