Hi I am currently reading books about NT4 and keep coming across references to directories and variables placed between %. i.e. %systemroot%\system32 directory or
%homepath%. Can anyone please tell me what these are or mean. Thanks

Hi, it refers in the most general sense as your path variable.

Anything inside % is a variable set by the system at logon. %systemroot% is whatever drive and directory your NT system is installed to (ie. c:\winnt by default).
%HomePath% is the path to your home directory, etc.
type ECHO variable at the command prompt to show what is stored in a particular variable.
(ie. echo %systemroot%)
good luck!
