Subject: Strange RAS error in event log, help me. |
Comment: I'm getting a strange error in event log. Can't find anything in the MSKB about it, maybe someone here has seen it or can point me in the right direction. It's actually two errors, both logged at the same time, the first is: The description for Event ID ( 2001 ) in Source ( rasctrs ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: The second is: The Open Procedure for service "RemoteAccess" in DLL "rasctrs.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. Status code returned is DWORD 0. This is on my IIS/proxy box with PPTP/ras enabled. I've had it setup like this for months and have just started getting this event over the last few days. Any ideas? Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Hi Jason, How about re-registering that dll? At a command line get to the folder where rasctrs.dll is and run REGSVR32 RASCTRS.dll This might fix it, I'm not sure but this will not hurt. Some people feel that everytime there's a RAS problem, re-apply the service pack, so you may also want to consider that after running regsvr32.
