This is something that happened a few dyas ago to my relatively new IBM computer (which has two hard drives, and has Linux on the 2nd (slave) hard drive, and Windows NT and DOS installed on the (master) first, with LILO installed in the MBR of the master, and being able to boot all OS's normally up to the point where the OS's take over): 11-27-00 ____________________ All of a sudden, my normally faithful Windows NT 4 installation has begun crashing with a STOP:00000007 error. It happened after the screen went blank for some reason while I was away from the computer. The computer wouldn't respond, and when I rebooted, I got the STOP error ("Inaccessible Boot Device") when I tried to load NT. As far as I can tell, all the files are still on the hard drive, because I can see them from Linux, which is on my other hard drive and can boot itself. I tried reinstalling NT to a different directory, but this didn't seem to modify the BOOT.INI file, so after the first reboot Setup also crashed with a STOP:7. I haven't yet tried reinstalling from scratch, but I am right now backing up my entire hard drive in case I do have to reinstall from scratch. There is a chance, and I really hope it is zero, that my hard drive is physically damaged, because I bumped the computer against another computer a short while before this happened. But I CAN see all the files from Linux, so that gives me hope. 11-29-00 ____________________ Well, I didn't have any other configurations, and Last Known Good didn't work, so I reinstalled NT. It worked fine ... for as long as it took me to reinstall everything, and then I got a different problem! This time it was a STOP:c0000135 "Unable to Locate DLL" error, which the computer produced after showing a long list of DOS files preceded by "unrecoverable error in...". Now that I think of it, it was DOS I was using right before the other problem appeared. My guess is somehow that DOS is to blame, and I may have to transfer all of the DOS programs to another computer. But please, before I waste my time again, can anyone tell me if this story makes any sense ? Can using DOS, which cannot read the NTFS file system, cause damage to an otherwise clean NT installation ? Running FDISK in Linux, I get an error telling me that the primary partition "0" ends before Sector 0, and that two logical partitions overlap. Also, even when NT worked perfectly, it switched my drive letters around so that one time the main drive became "E:" and most non-system programs wouldn't run until I used Disk Administrator to swap the drive letters around so that C: became the main partition again. Disk Admin has never given me any kind of errors telling me that partitions overlap, or the like, and it doesn't appear that way in the graphical representation of my drives, but I can't help thinking that there might be a physical problem with this hard drive that is causing partitions to overlap or not be written or read correctly by the system. Again, with all the information I have given here, I hope there is someone who can help me, even if it's just to say "Get a new hard disk" or "Delete all other partitions on that hard disk".

That happens when your partition table is damaged..whenever i got that message i just started from scratch but first if your nt installation is on a partition other than C: then just simply wipe out the c drive and create another partition..then run repair from the NT CD

Check to see whether your NTFS partition is becoming hidden after booting to linux - I suspect it is. Use something like partition magic to unhide it!!
