I'm having an odd problem with an NT 4 system I have. It's currently on a network using phoneline cards where it gets shared internet from a Windows XP system. The XP system's IP address is set to 192.168.0.1, all others get an IP dynamically. I want this system to have a static IP address though, so I changed it to 192.168.0.11, with the gateway as 192.168.0.1. However, after doing this, is loses it's internet connection, and I'm not sure why. It can still ping the other systems on the network, the other systems can ping it, it can see other systems in Network Neighborhood and send/receive files to/from those system, basically everything works fine except for the internet connection. As soon as I switch the NT 4 system back to receiving it's IP dynamically, everything works fine. I'm not sure what the problem is, I tried this recently with an XP system using the same settings (IP 192.168.0.11, gateway 192.168.0.1) and it worked fine. Any ideas?

No wonder you're Freaked - you've got me scratching my head as well. The only thing I can suggest is to:
1. Try a reboot of the recalcitrant PC before taking a hammer to it. Sometimes works (reboot that is, hammer ALWAYS has the desired effect).
2. Remove the TCP stack (networking components) on that machine and rebuild from scratch (no pun intended) after a reboot. Although dynamic changes always appear to work in NT, it's not as forgiving as W2K or XP. A rebuild and/or reboot can often give it the desired "kick in the pants".

Just removed TCP/IP, restarted, reinstalled TCP/IP and set a static IP, restarted again, and it was the same as before, everything works except Internet sharing... Reset to dynamic IP and the internet access was back again without even having to restart.
This one does indeed have me "freaked", LOL! It's not a huge problem to leave it this way, but since this system is being used as a server, it'd be much more convenient if it could be set to a static IP...
